What is it?

DHA is a plant sourced simple carbohydrate and can come from either a sugar (eg
sugar cane, sugar beet) or vegetable derived glycerin, found in a number of
vegetable oils.

Is it safe?

DHA is deemed the safest self-tanning active as it does not
penetrate the skin‘s outer layer (epidermis) and interestingly, it is the only
self-tanning active to be approved by the US Food & Drug Administration.
For this reason, the skin darkening effect is non-toxic, does not damage the
skin and is ideal for those with sensitive skins.

How does it work?

DHA is a colourless sugar that undergoes a natural
reaction with the skin‘s amino acids, part of the keratin protein layer of the
skin. This produces a darkening effect to the skin and can vary from yellow
to brown dependent on the amino acids as well as quantity of the active applied.

How long does it last?

A colour change should be noticeable within a few
hours of application, however darkening may take up to 24 hours to
develop. As the skin darkens only on the epidermis, the life of the colour will
depend on the individual and the natural shedding of skin cells.
Colour should last for approx. 3-4 days with 1-2 applications. Combined
with natural moisturisers such as Aloe Vera to soothe & nourish the skin,
promoting a smooth, even skin surface for colour distribution.
